After divorcing her American husband, Emilia, a Latin American immigrant, faces a dilemma: should she stay in the United States or go back home? When she's told her mother is dying and that she's forced to return, her conflict becomes unbearable and she finds a good listener in her friend Tom, a younger gay man who seems to know a lot more about life than Emilia.
